To the humble

Have you ever wondered why God chose Moses to give the Law to Israel?

Have you ever wondered why God chose Paul to give the gospel to the Gentiles?

When He goes about building His house, to whom does God reveal His thoughts? To the humble!

Is 66:2 This is what the LORD says: "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool. Where is the house you will build for me? Where will my resting place be? For My hand made all these things, thus all these things came into being," declares the LORD. "But to this one I will look, to him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word."

Those who tremble at God’s word do not add to it or twist it just so that they can defend their doctrine. Neither do they subtract from it just to please some man.

God revealed the Law to Moses and the gospel to Paul because they were humble. He will do the same with you too.

If you are humble, and you tremble at God’s word then He will have regard for you and allow you to build a dwelling place for Him. That is, He will allow you to build His church. You can’t build God’s kingdom without an understanding of God’s word and God’s way.

Ps 25:9 He leads the humble in justice, and He teaches the humble His way.

Pr 11:2 When pride comes, then comes dishonor, but with the humble is wisdom.

Dan 10:11-12 He said to me, "O Daniel, man of high esteem, understand the words that I am about to tell you and stand upright, for I have now been sent to you." And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling. Then he said to me, "Do not be afraid, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart on understanding this and on humbling yourself before your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to your words."

It is when we set our hearts on understanding God’s word and humbling that God will hear us and open our minds to the Scriptures.

Like Daniel, let us humbly mourn over our sin and seek God (Dan 9:4-23). Then we too will be given understanding of the mysteries of God.
