Ask God to teach you

So far, we’ve seen how we must strongly desire to know God, and that we should not assume others know God, or even that we know God. The next point is this: go to God for the knowledge of God.

When we realize how much help we need in understanding God’s word, and recognize that the only thing that makes sense is to go to the source, then we will not hesitate to ask God to help us. We will ask for help every time we seek to understand God’s word.

God Himself encourages us to ask Him for help. He never tells us to go to our pastor or anyone else.

Jas 1:5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

Jer 33:3 ‘Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

Ps 32:8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.

So like the Psalmist, let us seek God continually for help in getting sound doctrine.

Ps 25:4-5 Make me know Your ways, O LORD; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; for You I wait all the day.

Ps 86:11 Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth; Unite my heart to fear Your name.

Ps 199:66 Teach me good discernment and knowledge, for I believe in Your commandments.

God has promised to teach and instruct us. Therefore we can ask Him to do so, as we would be asking according to His will – and when He does, let us believe in what He says.
